We are back on the track and ready to cash some tickets, as we do each and every Saturday. One of our favorite tracks to cap is Santa Anita in Arcadia, CA. Santa Anita is back for a quick five-week meet as we lead up to the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar. Today's card has ten races in total. There are five stakes races and two Breeders' Cup win-and-in events. The first featured race of the day is the fourth, the City of Hope Mile. This is a grade two, one mile route on the turf course. The purse is $200k. The winner of this race earns their spot in the FanDuel Mile at the Breeders' Cup. Both of our cappers have this race lined the exact same, so you will get an unofficial second best bet today. The next race in the Breeders' Cup challenge series is race nine, the Goodwood Stakes. This is a 1 and 1/8th mile route on the dirt. It is a grade one race worth $300k. The winner earns their spot in the Longines Classic at the Breeders' Cup. There is a lot of good action today on and off the track. We will have all eyes on Santa Anita starting at 1 PM Pacific. The weather today could be tricky with highs in the upper 70s, cloudy skies, and a chance of thunder. As of this writing, the track is fast and the turf is firm. That could change if the weather does not cooperate.
We have a bonus today. Belmont at the Big A has a Breeders' Cup race we need to mention. Because of this extra opportunity, we provided our picks for a late daily double at this track in New York, presented by The NYRA. Both legs of this double are stakes races. The highlighted race is the ninth. This is the $200k Vosburgh Stakes, presented by Army Mule. It will be contested at seven furlongs on the dirt. The winner of this race earns their spot in the Cygames Sprint at the Breeders' Cup. Around race 8 post, the weather will see highs in the mid 70s with some clouds. Both races are on the dirt, and we have a fast track.
The City of Hope Mile Stakes is a Grade II turf race held annually at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, typically run in the fall over one mile on the grass for horses three years old and up. Originally inaugurated in 1986 as the Oak Tree Mile Stakes under the Oak Tree Racing Association, the event has long served as an important prep for the Breeders’ Cup Mile, often drawing top turf milers from across the country. In 2012, the race was renamed the City of Hope Mile Stakes in partnership with the City of Hope National Medical Center, reflecting Santa Anita’s tradition of aligning major events with charitable causes. Over the years, it has become a prestigious race on the Southern California circuit, showcasing speed, stamina, and versatility on the turf.
