Happy Saturday & National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! 🍦

What better way to kick off the weekend than with ice cream for breakfast? Today, we can add some toppings as we enjoy multiple Derby and Oaks prep races happening across the country.

First up, we're focusing on the full card at Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia, CA, for a solid day of racing featuring 10 races, including four graded stakes races and one Derby prep race. The highlight of the day comes early in the card, specifically in the fourth race, which aligns with other prep races we'll cover in a separate post.

Although there are only five runners in this race, the top horse is Citizen Bull, who currently leads the Derby standings with 40 points after winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last November, which earned him 30 points. This impressive colt began his Derby journey by winning the American Pharoah Stakes last October. Will he continue his winning streak, or will one of the other four horses, including two trained by Baffert, challenge this dominant multiple stakes winner?

Today's weather in SoCal is typically pleasant, with highs in the low 70s and mostly sunny skies. This means we'll likely see a fast track and firm turf for another beautiful day of racing. With the big game approaching, be sure to check out our posts about Pickles' adventures in Vegas this week, along with our betting picks for the game.

Before diving into our top-rated and best bets, let's take a closer look at our featured race today, where 20-10-6-4-2 points will be awarded toward the Kentucky Derby leaderboard. The top 20 horses receive a spot in the race, so these smaller events play a crucial role early in the qualification process.

The Robert B. Lewis Stakes is a Grade III Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Santa Anita Park in California. Named in honor of prominent racehorse owner and philanthropist Robert B. Lewis, the race was established in 1935 and was initially known as the Santa Catalina Stakes before being renamed in 2007. It is open to three-year-old horses and is run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs) on dirt. As part of the Road to the Kentucky Derby, the race awards qualifying points to the top finishers, making it a key early-season prep race for Derby hopefuls. The Robert B. Lewis Stakes has a history of producing top contenders for the Triple Crown series, with past winners including notable horses such as Ferdinand and Pioneerof the Nile.
