Happy Sunday & National Tater Tot Day!🥔
As we prepare for another six more weeks of winter (Yep - the little guy saw his shadow), we are also preparing for a whirlwind of Kentucky Derby & Oaks prep races. A total of 168 Derby & Oaks points were awarded yesterday across 4 races and 3 tracks. Congrats to the winners & their connections. Most notable was Citizen Bull clinching a place in the Derby for trainer Bob Baffert by winning the Robert B. Lewis Stakes. That gives Baffert 7 consecutive wins in that race. Citizen Bull added 20 qualifying points, bringing his total to 60.
Today, we head to our familiar Sunday location in Southern California for 10 races at Santa Anita Park. Today's card is highlighted by one more KY Oaks prep race, the 100K Grade 3 Las Virgenes, which will see a 5-horse field vying for the 20 qualifying points award to the winner. We've got fast & firm conditions - Yay!!!! 😎🏇🏻
Santa Anita Park, located in Arcadia, California, is one of the most iconic horse racing tracks in the United States. Opened on December 25, 1934, it quickly became a premier venue for thoroughbred racing. The track was developed by a group led by Dr. Charles H. Strub and movie producer Hal Roach. During World War II, Santa Anita was temporarily closed and repurposed as a Japanese American internment camp. After the war, it resumed racing and became home to prestigious events like the Santa Anita Handicap and the Breeders’ Cup. Known for its picturesque setting against the San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Anita remains a cornerstone of American horse racing.
