Happy Sunday & National Baklava Day!
For today's 🏇🏻 action, we are traveling about two hours south of the World Headquarters of Turtle Sports (aka - the Glass Turtle in Roseville, CA) to play a nice 8 race card at Pleasanton. Possible rain in the evening but we'll stay dry for today's races.
Horse racing in Pleasanton, California, dates back to the 1850s when informal races were held on the lands of Don Augustin Bernal. The track at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, established in 1858, is the oldest one-mile racetrack in the United States. Pleasanton gained prominence in the late 19th century through the involvement of Phoebe Apperson Hearst, a local philanthropist who bred top-tier racehorses.
Fun Horse Racing Fact:🏇🏻
Ever wonder why we call a young female horse ( typically under four years of age) a filly? The term “filly” comes from the Old Norse word fylja, meaning “young mare.”

"Many believe Baklava originated with the Turkic people in Central Asian nations. However, many countries prepare the dessert in a variety of ways. The word “Baklava” first appeared in English in 1650."
