Happy Thurby & May Day🌺🌷🌼🌻🌹

In the spirit of Justin Timberlake, "It's gonna be May!" That’s right, we are just two days away from everyone's favorite horse race—the Kentucky Derby. But before we get there, we have another day of racing at Churchill Downs, where the cards are getting longer, the pools are getting larger, and we’re finalizing our Oaks and Derby picks.

Today's card features 12 races, including three stakes races and plenty of runners. The highlight of the day will be the 10th race, the Opening Verse Stakes. This race is a mile-long event on the turf course for four-year-olds and older, with a purse of $350,000.

As for the weather, it’s expected to be unpredictable, with highs in the low 70s and potential thunderstorms throughout the day, accompanied by mostly cloudy skies. Rain was anticipated yesterday, which could lead to changes in the track and turf conditions as the day progresses.

The safety of the horses and jockeys is our top priority, and we will keep you updated on any delays caused by thunderstorms as the day unfolds.

Presented by Old Forester and in partnership with Frazier History Museum, the venue transforms into a vibrant display of the state's rich heritage. Delve into Kentucky's storied past and lively present with engaging photo ops and experiences that capture the essence of our rich culture. A must-attend for history buffs, music lovers, and racing enthusiasts alike, this event encapsulates Kentucky's spirited music, deep-rooted traditions, and vibrant atmosphere.

Churchill Downs, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is a historic horse racing venue best known as the home of the Kentucky Derby. It was officially opened in 1875 by Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr., the grandson of famed explorer William Clark, who was inspired by European racing traditions. The track quickly gained prominence with the inaugural running of the Kentucky Derby, which has since become the longest continually held sporting event in the United States. Over the decades, Churchill Downs expanded its facilities and reputation, undergoing major renovations while preserving its iconic twin spires, which were added in 1895. Today, it stands as a symbol of American horse racing tradition and culture.
