We hope you’re having a fantastic holiday season and are ready to get back to cashing tickets with us. Today, we head to SoCal—specifically Arcadia, CA—to play the ponies at Santa Anita Park.

The winter meet, known as the Classic Meet, was supposed to open on Friday and will feature racing every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through April 5. Today’s card has 11 total races, including six stakes races, and was originally scheduled for Friday. However, due to safety concerns, the full card was moved to today.

While there are no Kentucky Derby or Kentucky Oaks prep races on the schedule, we still wanted to bring you some top-rated horses from opening weekend at Santa Anita. The total purse money available in today’s stakes races will exceed $1,000,000, but the featured event comes in Race 10: the Malibu Stakes. This Grade 1, seven-furlong race on the dirt is restricted to three-year-olds only.

Prep racing returns next week, so make sure you subscribe and follow us for all the action as we ramp up into our favorite time of year on the Lundin Line.

The weather in SoCal is going to be beautiful for this time of year, with highs in the mid-60s and sunny skies. The track should be fast and the turf firm when the first post goes off.
