Happy Saturday, Florida Derby Day & National Pita Day! What a great day of racing we have ahead! There are two stops on the Kentucky Oaks/Derby trail where points will be distributed, and several horses will secure a spot in the starting gate in five weeks. As we approach the home stretch, we're excited to have multiple opportunities to cash in today.

First, we head to Hallandale, FL, to watch the races at Gulfstream Park. It promises to be a long day of thrilling competition, but that's what we look forward to at this time of year. The card features a total of 14 races, including 10 stakes races, with one each for the Oaks and Derby prep events.

The first prep race of the day is the Gulfstream Park Oaks, scheduled for around 12:30 PM Pacific time. Unfortunately, one runner has scratched, leaving us with a field of six. Nevertheless, it's bound to be an exciting race! This is a Grade 2, 1 1/16 mile event on dirt for three-year-old fillies, boasting a purse of $250,000. Three of these fillies are already on the leaderboard and are eager to secure their spots by simply finishing in the top positions today.

The featured race is the last of the day, the $1 million Florida Derby. This race covers 1 1/8 miles on dirt and includes 10 participants. It will once again shake up the leaderboard, with several horses already having points and looking to solidify their spots in the Derby starting gate.

Please note that Tyler Gaffalione has suffered an ankle injury and will not be riding the 8, Madaket Road, for trainer Bob Baffert. Instead, Mike Smith will take over this mount, so keep that in mind when finalizing your betting tickets.

Today's weather looks beautiful, with highs in the low 80s and partly cloudy skies. However, some thunderstorms are expected. In Florida, the weather can change quickly, so be prepared for a potential track rating adjustment at any moment. For now, we have a fast track and firm turf conditions. Enjoy the races!

The Florida Derby was inaugurated in 1952 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and has since become one of the most significant prep races for the Kentucky Derby. Traditionally run at 1 1/8 miles on dirt, it has produced numerous champions who have gone on to win Triple Crown races, including legends like Spectacular Bid, Unbridled, and Barbaro. The race quickly gained prestige due to its timing—typically held in late March or early April—allowing contenders to peak before the Kentucky Derby. With a rich purse and valuable qualifying points on the line, the Florida Derby remains a cornerstone of the American horse racing calendar, consistently attracting top trainers, jockeys, and Thoroughbreds.
