Happy Belmont Stakes Saturday & National Yo-yo Day! 🪀

The third jewel of the Triple Crown will be handed out today, and we have coverage of every race on the card to help you cash some tickets. This has not been our week for finding winners, but we have another day to try to close the gap a bit and lick our wounds while still enjoying this game we love. Yesterday, we had three top-pick winners for another day of negative ROI, and we only added one more second-pick winner for a huge negative ROI. For the week so far, we have only nine top-pick winners from 35 races, so we have some work to do today, and maybe tomorrow, to at least enjoy a great day of racing.

Today's card has 14 total races, seven stakes, and many familiar names you know in this sport that you can root for all day. The featured race is the Belmont Stakes in Race 13, with a post time of 4:04 PDT. Yes, we are at Saratoga, but they are still renovating Belmont Park, which will reopen later this year. This race is a Grade 1, 1 1/4-mile route on the dirt and will have a $2,000,000 purse.

We have horses returning from the Kentucky Derby today, including the winner Golden Tempo. The other returning starters from that race are Chief Wallabee, who finished fourth in the Derby; Renegade, who finished second; Commandment, who finished seventh after a nice early run; and Emerging Market, who finished 10th after fading late.

The biggest question here is what the pace will look like in this race. The Belmont is typically a bit longer, but with the venue change, it has been shortened to the same distance as the Kentucky Derby. There are far fewer horses in this race than we saw five weeks ago, and that will dramatically change the way the race plays out. Our two cappers are not aligned, so make sure you take a look and build your best ticket possible.

The weather today is going to be tricky, as it rained early this morning but should clear up a bit as the day goes on. We expect highs in the low 80s with mostly cloudy skies. To start the day, we have a fast track and firm turf, but that could change as the day goes on and the turf could soften since it is wet. The dirt, however, should dry out as the day progresses.

🏇The Belmont Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race first run in 1867, making it the oldest of the three U.S. Triple Crown events and one of the country’s most prestigious sporting traditions. Named for financier and racing patron August Belmont Sr., the race became the final—and often most demanding—leg of the Triple Crown because of its classic distance of 1½ miles, a stamina test that earned it the nickname “The Test of the Champion.” Originally held at Jerome Park and later at Morris Park, it found a long-term home at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, which opened in 1905 and helped cement the race’s modern identity. Over the decades, the Belmont has produced some of racing’s most iconic moments, from Secretariat’s record-shattering 1973 victory to the drama of Triple Crown bids that have succeeded or fallen short under its unique pressure, ensuring the Belmont Stakes remains a defining measure of greatness in American horse racing.
