Happy Pegasus World Cup Saturday & National Peanut Butter Day! 🥜
We’re back on the track and headed to just about the only place in the country that isn’t frozen right now. That’s right—we’re playing the ponies in Hallandale Beach, FL, at Gulfstream Park. The Derby prep season is on hold for this illustrious day of racing, where some of the biggest names come to claim a huge prize and prove they’re still in top form from their younger years.
Today’s card has 13 total races, eight stakes races, and all-day action for wagering as football starts to wind down. While today’s card is packed with horses and is meant to be a full package, we still have a featured race in the finale. Race 13 is the Pegasus World Cup Invitational, run at 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. This Grade 1 event is for four-year-olds and up, with a purse of $3,000,000! While that’s not the largest purse in the world for a single race, it still rivals the Triple Crown races and is considered a very important event for older horses.
There are many familiar names, and our two cappers did not agree on the exact order, but we do have a structured bet for you below to help you cash a ticket. Today’s weather is amazing, with highs in the upper 70s and mostly sunny skies. The track is fast, the turf is good, and we’re all set for a great day of racing.
We didn’t have a chance to look at last week’s numbers and update the track report we promised you. It will be included next time we post, but it’s been a busy start to the year for our team. We also missed you for the Derby prep in Dubai yesterday. We won’t past-post that, and we’re disappointed we couldn’t help you cash a ticket there, but the international series is always harder to get information on, and it starts much earlier. We’ll get better and cover as many races as time permits.
The Pegasus World Cup Invitational was inaugurated in 2017 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, created to shake up traditional Thoroughbred racing with a bold, high-stakes business model. Conceived by The Stronach Group, the race debuted as the world’s richest horse race, originally offering a $12 million purse funded by owners who bought starting slots rather than earning entry through prep races. Run at 1⅛ miles on dirt in late January, it quickly became a showcase for elite older horses and international attention. Over time, the model evolved—moving away from full buy-ins, adjusting purse structures, and expanding into a Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational—but the event remains a marquee early-season highlight that blends top-class racing with spectacle and innovation.
Need help picking winners? We've got you covered! Our (Always Free) Lundin Line's top picks and best bets are below. We use them to help narrow the field while putting our tickets together. The first post will be here soon, so don't be late -
