🏇Happy Wednesday & National Tie One On Day! (see below)
We know you are are getting ready for a feast tomorrow but we wanted to make sure you had some money in your pocket to help cover those expenses! We are headed to Bensalem, PA to play the ponies from Parx Racino today. 10 races are scheduled to run, all on dirt, and the track will be fast. The weather is cooperating for today's card as we will have highs in the low 50s with partly sunny skies. Before we kick off today's card, here is a bit of history from this world famous track:
Parx Racing, formerly Philadelphia Park Racetrack, is a prominent thoroughbred horse racing venue in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Its history dates back to its founding in 1974, when it was initially known as Keystone Racetrack. In 1984, the facility was renamed Philadelphia Park.
In the 2000s, the introduction of slot machines and casino gaming significantly boosted the track’s revenue, allowing for higher purses and improved facilities. In 2009, Philadelphia Park rebranded as Parx Racing and Casino, reflecting its dual identity as a racetrack and a full-scale casino. This change marked a new era of modernization and prominence. Parx Racing introduced high-stakes events, such as the Grade I Pennsylvania Derby and the Grade I Cotillion Stakes, attracting some of the country's best horses, jockeys, and trainers.
The Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes is a prominent annual thoroughbred horse race held at Parx Racing. This race is specifically for two-year-old horses bred in Pennsylvania, making it a showcase for the state’s breeding program and up-and-coming talent in horse racing.
The Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes has been a stepping stone for young horses that go on to successful racing careers. One of its most famous winners is Smarty Jones, who won the race in 2003. Smarty Jones later won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, bringing national attention to Pennsylvania’s racing and breeding programs.
