Churchill Downs Stakes Races // 04-September

Lundin Line

R8: Eight Belles S. presented by Twinspires.com

[1] Mundaye Call

Mundaye Call enters today’s Eight Belles with 3 consecutive Wins. The most recent - the Runhappy Audubon Oaks on August 9th - was her most impressive. She immediately set the pace and, except for a brief rousing around the eighth pole, cruised to a Win by 7 lengths. In that win, she earned her highest Speed figure of 108 and is 2nd in this field in average Speed (84). This will be Mundaye Call’s third start for Trainer Brad Cox who is winning at 23% and ITM at 52% with his horses coming off a win and will once again have Florent Geroux at the reigns. It's worth noting that Geroux has been ITM 57% over the last 10 days. Mundaye Call is opening the day at 6-5 odds.

R9: Edgewood S. presented by Forcht Bank (GIIT)

[8] Walk in Marrakesh

Walk in Marrakesh is coming of a “by a nose” 2nd place finish in her last race - the Appalachian Stakes (JRA) on July 11th. In that race, she earned her highest career Speed figure of 108. She moves up in class for Trainer Ignacio Correas in today’s Edgewood Stakes, leading the field with an average Speed of 98. She also is coming in with strong Pace Ratings, including a 97.8 in finish Pace (second in this field). Over the last 10 days, Jockey Javier Castellano is winning at 24% and has been ITM at 52%. Morning Line odds for Walk in Marrakesh are 6-1.

R10: Alysheba S. presented by Sentient Jet (GII)

[2] McKinzie

Before Bob Baffert finds out how Gamine performs in Race 12, he will be rooting for McKinzie (his only other entry today) in this year’s Alysheba Stakes. This 4 years and upward race will offer Baffert and Jockey Mike Smith an opportunity to put McKinzie back in the winner’s circle after an unremarkable trip in his last race - a 5th place finish on July 4th in the Met Mile. Prior to that race, Mckinzie won the Triple Bend Stakes at Santa Anita on June 7th, beating out Dark Vader and Ax Man, both who went on to win their next races. He leads the field in average Speed (115) and also in middle (101) and finish (115) Speed Ratings. When coming off this length of layoff, Baffert’s horses are winning at 26% and ITM 68%. At this distance / surface, his horses are winning at 33% and ITM at 61%. McKinzie opens the day at 8-5 odds.

R11: La Troienne S. presented by Oak Grove Racing and Gaming (GI)

[8] Monomoy Girl

Monomoy Girl is coming off her 9th straight Win (Belmont on July 11th) in which she beat out Vexatious to Win the Ruffian Stakes. Vexatious, also running in this race, went on to win her next race, the Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga on August 1st. Monomoy Girl enters today’s La Troienne Stakes leading the field with an average Speed figure of 104 and also leads in early and finish Pace Ratings. Jockey Florent Geroux has been behind the reigns for all of her starts with the impressive record of 11 Wins in 13 Starts. Geroux is winning at 23% and ITM 53% at this distance and surface and Trainer Brad Cox’s horses are, over the last 30 days, winning at 26% and ITM at 58%. Morning Line odds for Monomoy Girl are 4-5.

R12: Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI)

[5] Gamine

Gamine was very impressive in her last race, a Win at Saratoga on August 8th in the Longines Test (GI). After a brief tussle with Venetian out of the gate, she was pulled inside and eventually asserted herself and won by 7 lengths. Gamine enters today's Longines Kentucky Oaks leading the field in average Speed (107) and finish Pace Rating (110). Save a disqualification in her start on May 2nd at Oaklawn, Gamine is undefeated in her young career. She earned her highest Speed figure of 117 in her Win on June 20th at Belmont. At this distance and surface, Bob Baffert’s horses are winning at 33% and ITM 61%. One must consider that with John Velazquez at the reigns, Baffert’s horses are ITM at 82% and winning at 45%. Gamine will be starting the day off at 1-1 odds.

Best of Luck to ALL!
