Farmers Insurance Open // January 28 - 31
Birdie Line
Happy Monday – it was a wild weekend on so many fronts at the Farmers Insurance Open down in San Diego. We had wild weather on Friday but the real storm took place on Saturday with the eventual winner Patrick Reed. Questionable ball placement and rules enforcement kept the golf community fired up through the weekend. I’m sure there will be plenty of conversation on rules enforcement moving forward this season.
Our #Birdieline Top 5 streak continues with both of our picks shining by tying for a second-place finish. Viktor Hovland had put himself in a great position going into moving day with a 65 on Friday, but just couldn’t keep the momentum and capitalize on opportunities over the weekend. Our second pick Xander Schauffele had a slow start on Thursday and Friday which made the weekend that much more difficult to catch the leader.
Congrats to Patrick Reed on the win. He didn’t let the rules controversy deter him on his quest for victory. Two eagles on the par 5 564 yard 6th hole on the South Course really put the pressure on the field along with his impressive scrambling skills to maintain and extend his lead over the weekend.
Keep an eye out for our #birdieline this Thursday as the PGA west coast swing continues with the Waste Management Open at TPC Scottsdale.
