Los Alimitos Race Course 🏇🏾// Sat., Dec. 7, 2024

Happy Saturday & Cotton Candy Day!

The road to the Kentucky Oaks continues as we have one more prep race today to keep you cashin' tickets! We are headed back closer to home but headed to SoCal and playing the ponies from Los Alamitos Racecourse. We have a solid nice race card with one stakes races. The stakes race is also the featured race today which comes in the eighth race today. This is an 8.5 furlong route on the dirt for filly two year olds only. The top finishers will take home 10-5-3-2-1 points towards the Kentucky Oaks Standings and a chance to run the first weekend in May. As noted in our earlier post this is a good chance to see the stars of the future run and get some overreactions on the future of the three year old division. Here's a quick rundown on the featured race from Wikipedia:

The Starlet Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old fillies run over a distance of one and one sixteenth miles (8+1⁄2 furlongs) on the dirt held annually in early December at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California. The event currently offers a purse of $200,000. The inaugural running of the event was during the spring meeting of 1979, on 13 April at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California as a 6 furlong sprint for three-year-olds. The event was won by Eloquent who was ridden by the US Hall of Fame jockey Donald Pierce and trained by US Hall of Fame trainer Lazaro S. Barrera in a time of 1:09 flat. The event was not run the following year. In 1981 the administration of Hollywood Park Racetrack decided to hold two new two-year-old events at the end of the racing season with one for colts and geldings, Hollywood Futurity and for fillies the Hollywood Starlet Stakes. The races were held on consecutive weekends with the Hollywood Starlet Stakes run on 21 November while the Futurity was held on 28 November.

The weather today is beautiful as usual from Cypress, CA with highs in the upper 70s and sunny skies. There is only a dirt track at Los Alamitos and we are blessed with a fast track today due to the weather.
