Happy Saturday & National Tailgating Day! 🛻🍻🍗🦉
We are less than two months away from the biggest weekend in horse racing, and the road to the Breeders' Cup is heating up. Last week, we covered events from coast to coast, but this week, all eyes are on Kentucky Downs in Franklin, KY. We’ve analyzed the full card, so you can prepare your betting tickets as we work together to find some winners.
Today’s card features 12 races, including six stakes races and one 'Win and In' Breeders' Cup race. The highlight of the day is the 11th race: the $2.5 million KTDF Kentucky Turf Cup Invitational Stakes. This is a 1.5-mile Grade 2 route over the European-style turf course at Kentucky Downs. The winner will earn a spot in the Longines Turf at the Breeders' Cup in Del Mar later this year. In total, the stakes races today will distribute $13 million in prize money, so you’ll want to get involved, as the betting pools will be substantial.
The weather today is expected to be tricky; there were concerns that Mother Nature might prevent racing, but we are set for cloudy skies with highs in the mid to upper 60s. There’s a slight chance of rain early and thunderstorms throughout the day, but the turf is firm, so we will race on.
Thank you again to everyone who reads, shares, or likes our posts. We do this for fun, for now, and to continue a tradition that honors our friend Bill.
The Kentucky Turf Cup Invitational Stakes is a prestigious long-distance turf race held annually at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Kentucky. First run in 1991 as the Sam Houston Stakes, the race was later renamed the Kentucky Cup Turf Handicap before adopting its current title. Traditionally contested at 1½ miles on the turf, it has grown into one of the track’s signature events, attracting top turf stayers from across the country. The race became part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” Series, offering an automatic berth into the Breeders’ Cup Turf, which has elevated its national significance. Over the years, the Kentucky Turf Cup has steadily increased its purse, now ranking among the richest turf races in the U.S., helping Kentucky Downs establish itself as a premier venue for grass racing.
