Happy Saturday & National Peanut Day! 🥜🥜
This weekend, we’ll be watching the full card at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There are a total of 12 races scheduled, including five stakes races and three "Win and In" races for the Breeders' Cup.
The first Breeders' Cup race is the sixth race of the day, featuring young two-year-olds competing for a spot in the Juvenile Turf on Halloween. The Bet365 Summer Stakes is a one-mile, Grade 1 race on the Inner Turf, with a purse of $500,000 and 12 runners.
Following closely is the Johnnie Walker Natalma Stakes, another Grade 1 race on the Inner Turf, exclusively for two-year-old fillies, also with a $500,000 purse. The winner of this race earns a spot in the John Deere Juvenile Fillies Turf, which will take place on Halloween at Del Mar.
The final Breeders' Cup race of the day is the Rodgers Woodbine Mile Stakes, featuring three-year-olds and older horses in a one-mile route on the Inner Turf. This race has a purse of $1 million, and its winner will secure a spot in the FanDuel Mile on November 1st at Del Mar.
While there are additional "Win and In" races happening in Europe, we do not have complete data for those and will not be covering them. After today, the fields for the Breeders' Cup will be nearly finalized, but there is still plenty of action to come this month. Be sure to join us each Saturday for the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series.
The weather for today is expected to start off rainy, clearing up early in the card. Highs will be in the lower 70s with mostly cloudy skies. The track is in great shape, rated fast, and the turf is firm.
The Rogers Woodbine Mile Stakes, inaugurated in 1988 as the Molson Export Challenge at 1¼ miles on dirt, evolved through several distance and surface modifications before adopting its current format—a one-mile turf Grade I race—in 1997. Originally restricted to three-year-olds, the event opened to older horses with the switch to turf. It became a key fixture in the North American racing calendar, serving as a “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Its list of past winners includes elite turf milers like Wise Dan, who holds the record for fastest time (1:31.75) and is the only two-time winner, along with notable international champions and both male and female victors, underscoring the race’s growing global prestige and competitive depth.
