Happy Friday & 4th of July!

Today is a bittersweet day for us here at Turtle Sports. The Lundin Line namesake would have turned 80 today if he had not left this world earlier this year. Happy Birthday, Bill! The good news is that his memories live on, and we often laugh about the good times we shared.

We are also excited to celebrate by heading to Saratoga Springs, NY, to enjoy a full day of races at the Saratoga Race Course. Today’s card features a total of 12 races, including five stakes races, ensuring plenty of action for everyone after the hotdog-eating contest.

The highlight of the day is the ninth race, the $750K Belmont Derby, which is a 1 and 1/8 mile route on the turf course. We were eager to see if Jason Wearth's Flying Mohawk could clinch a win as he returns to turf after competing in the triple crown races on dirt; however, he has scratched from the race. This means we will have seven runners in the featured event. We will also see another triple crown contender, Final Gambit, who is making his return to turf after his only start as a two-year-old.

With a lot of exciting racing action ahead, make sure not to spend all your bankroll on just one race. The weather today is exceptional, with highs in the upper 70s and sunny skies. The track is fast, and the turf is firm, so let’s aim to cash some tickets!

The Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, inaugurated in 2014, is a premier Grade I turf race for three-year-olds held annually at Belmont Park in New York. Established as part of the “Stars and Stripes Festival,” the race was designed to attract international competition and enhance American turf racing. Originally run at a distance of 1¼ miles (now 1 1/8 Miles), it quickly became a key summer target for top turf horses, often serving as the first leg of the Turf Triple series, followed by the Saratoga Derby and Jockey Club Derby. The Belmont Derby has drawn notable runners from Europe, Japan, and North America, solidifying its status as a globally significant race.
