Happy Friday & National Banana Bread Day! 🍌
We could think of no better way to celebrate National Banana Bread Day than by visiting one of our favorite tracks and California's oldest (Christmas Day in 1934). Fun Fact - when the first Santa Anita Handicap was run in February of 1935, its $100,000 purse was the largest amount that any race in the United States had produced at the time and earned the track the nickname - the "Big 'Cap." During World War II, the park was used as a Japanese American internment center, with 17,000 people living in the stables. When the war was over and the park re-opened in 1945, the famous downhill turf course was added, bringing Santa Anita on par with many European tracks.
