Happy Friday & National Day of the Horse! 🐎
Did you really think we would sit today out on National Day of the Horse!? Not a chance as we head to Oklahoma City and Remington Park. We are looking to improve on our poor performance yesterday at Fairgrounds where we only had one top pick winner out of ten races, that's a gross -86% ROI, and only three top two winners, another poor ROI of -23%. Today's card is arguably the biggest of the year at this track as we have 12 races, six stakes, and one derby prep race. There are some big names honored today with the stakes schedule including Toby Keith and Jim Thorpe:
Jim Thorpe (1887–1953) was an American athlete of Native American descent, widely regarded as one of the greatest sports figures in history. Thorpe excelled in multiple sports, including track and field, football, and baseball. He gained international fame at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, winning gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon, showcasing unmatched versatility and athleticism. Despite his Olympic triumphs being overshadowed by a controversial disqualification due to a technicality involving his amateur status, Thorpe's legacy endured. Beyond the Olympics, he played professional baseball for the MLB and was a pioneering figure in professional football, eventually becoming the first president of the National Football League (NFL).
The featured race today comes in the 12th, The Remington Springboard Mile, where 10-5-3-2-1 points will be handed out towards the leaderboard for the Kentucky Derby in May. This is an 8 furlong route on the dirt track with a purse of $300K being awarded. Steve Asmussen is the winningest trainer for this race that started back in 2001 as the Remington MEC Mile Stakes. Today Asmussen enters three of the 11 horses giving him a good chance to repeat as the winning trainer and extend his lead all time. In the irons for one of Asmussen's horses is Luis S. Quinonez who has two wins in this race and is looking to tie Cliff Berry as the winningest jockey with three wins. Two of our cappers think we will see Quinonez in the winner circle once again while one of them believes we will see a first time winning jockey and trainer.
Today's weather promises to be quite pleasant, with temperatures reaching the upper 50s. The skies will be predominantly cloudy, creating a soft, muted light throughout the day. Fortunately, the likelihood of rain is minimal, which means the track will remain in excellent condition for the entire card, allowing for an enjoyable experience for all participants and spectators.
