Happy Saturday & National Peach Cobbler Day! 🍑
With so many sports going on today, MLB, UFC 300, NHL, Champions League Soccer, and The Masters, we are here to make sure you navigate your way to the horse racing, it's only fitting that the PGA tour's biggest event this year is in the Peach State and it's National Peach Cobbler day. So get that cobbler fired up early so you don't miss our favorite event today the card from Keeneland Racecourse! That's right we are headed to Lexington, KY for the final Kentucky Derby prep race of the season. This race is typically an afterthought as the field is pretty much set; however, this year there are a few horses that can sneak in with a win today. This race awards 20-10-6-4-2 points to the top finishers. Hades is the horse everyone is watching as he can jump into the top 18, 20 horses can enter but 2 spots go to Japanese horses so you have to be top 18 to get in from the USA, and shake up some of the bottom rungs of the entries. After taking 1st in the Holy Bowl in February from Gulfstream Park, he ran a disappointing 5th in the Florida Derby on the same track two weeks ago. A win guarantees him a spot in the post-draw in two weeks and a spot to run in three weeks. It is possible he takes second and can still get in but he would need another contender to drop out by Friday, April 28th or he would be left out of the derby. Will the keeper of the Underworld from Greek mythology rise up and take down this field, or will he look towards another race down the line?
Today's card has 11 races with three stakes, all graded stakes. We are in for a great day of racing with these three huge races. The featured race comes in the 10th, the Stonestreet Lexington Stakes, an 8.5 furlong route over the dirt track is scheduled to have 10 runners. While we are focused on the 10th race, the 9th race, $600K Jenny Wiley Stakes, has many familiar names and could end up being the best race on the card as the only G1 race today. While it's been raining the last few days the weather will cooperate today with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s. The track is good t and the turf is good despite the rain we saw earlier this week but be on the lookout for any scratches due to past weather or changing track conditions.
