As Paul Rudd said in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, “Oh, the weather outside is weather,” so why not head to the track with us and play the ponies from Fair Grounds in New Orleans, LA?

That’s right, the Derby and Oaks prep trail heads to the bayou today—and so do we—as we’ve put our Lundin Line top-rated picks together for the full card, which features 12 total races and four stakes races, along with the prep races.

The featured action today—at least for us—is a double dip in races ten and eleven.

First up, we hand out 10-5-3-2-1 points toward the Oaks leaderboard in the Untapable Stakes. This is a one-mile route on the dirt for two-year-old fillies only, with a purse of $100k. None of the runners in this race has earned points yet, so they’ll all be looking to start their journey to the first Friday in May at Churchill Downs.

Next up, in the 11th race, we’ll be handing out 10-5-3-2-1 points toward the Derby leaderboard in the Gun Runner Stakes. This is a 1 1/16-mile route on the dirt, with a purse of $100k, just like the previous race. This race is for two-year-olds only, and all eight entrants are colts, as the ladies generally pass on the Derby prep races. We do have one runner who has already earned points on the leaderboard: the seven-horse, Very Connected, who—with a win—can vault all the way up into a tie for third.

The weather today in New Orleans will feature highs in the mid-70s with mostly sunny skies, so if you need to get away—even if it’s just on TV or an app—to see the sun, join us today for a fast track and firm turf.

"Each year 20 horses have the once in a lifetime chance to run in the Kentucky Derby. To earn a spot in the starting gate, they must travel along the Road to the Kentucky Derby, a series of designated races at tracks across the country and around the world. Points are awarded to the top five finishers in each race. The 20 horses with the most points will earn a spot in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May."
