🏇Happy Sunday & Happy Birthday to the U.S. Marine Corps 🇺🇸
That's right here at Turtle Sports we salute our brave men and women who make it possible to even write this post! Today is for the Marines' but tomorrow is for all the vets who served to protect our great country as Veteran's Day will be upon us. Today we head back to Del Mar for another great card and the celebration of another Hollywood icon:
The 2024 Betty Grable Stakes, a key race at Del Mar, will be held on Sunday, November 10. This race is part of the Golden State Series and is exclusive to California-bred fillies and mares three years and older. With a purse of $100,000, the stakes offer a competitive stage for top-caliber horses from the region. Among the contenders, Northern California Yearling Sale graduate Chancery Way and stakes winner Power Surge are highlighted entrants. Chancery Way, bred by Harris Farms and trained by Jamey Thomas, brings solid performance credentials, while Power Surge, trained by Brian Koriner, is coming off strong performances in previous stakes races.
" The race is one of the 35 Cal-bred tests that are part of the Golden State Stakes Series which are run up and down the state over the year. Ten of those races are run at Del Mar, eight during its summer session and two more during the fall Bing Crosby Season.
The Betty Grable was previously known as the Cat’s Cradle Stakes when it was run at the late, great Hollywood Park. But for the past 10 years it has been rebirthed at the shore oval and now named for the movie queen and pin-up star who was a regular at the track during the ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, notably with her husband nearby, the famous band leader and trumpet player, Harry James." The weather today is going to be just as good if not better than yesterday with highs in the low 70s and sunny skies. We will see a fast track and firm turf once again!

"The Continental Congress first established the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775, leading up to the American Revolution. Two battalions of Marines fought for independence both on land and at sea. The Corps was abolished at the end of the Revolutionary War. However, on July 11, 1798, Congress ordered the creation of the Corps. Congress named it the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and directed that it be available for service under the Secretary of the Navy."
