It is the end of the week, and the means we are on the track and ready to cash some tickets as we tackle the first day of the Breeders' Cup from Del Mar in San Diego, CA. The biggest weekend in horse racing is finally here, and we are happy to share our thoughts with you. Today's card features the unofficial beginning of the new racing season for all of these young horses. As noted, it is future stars Friday, and the top two-year-olds from around the world have descended on California to stake their claim to be the horse to watch over the next year. Today's card features 10 total races, including five stakes races that make up the Breeders' Cup, and more runners than we are used to seeing in California horse racing. We could delve into each race and outline what is at stake, but if you are following along with each race, the presenting personalities will provide you with all the necessary information. We are excited to be participating in Doubling Down with Colin Sheehan and Vinny. This is a great opportunity to get into racing or show your skills you already have for FREE. Of course, the featured race is the BC Juvenile, which comes in the ninth race and will feature horses that are on the Kentucky Derby trail. The purse for this race will be $2,000,000 and is a run at 1 & 1/16 miles on the dirt course. The top finishers will earn 30-15-9-6-3 points towards the leaderboard. Is the 2026 Kentucky Derby winner in today's featured field? Or will another horse we see on the card today win a big prep race later in the season to get in the gate and take home the bed of roses? Maybe it's not even a horse we see run today that will surprise us all and take home the run for the roses. There is also a Kentucky Oaks prep race today where the top horses also earn 30-15-9-6-3 points towards the Oaks leaderboard. The fillies take to the dirt in the seventh race. They are also running for a purse of $2,000,000 at 1 & 1/16 miles in the NetJets Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Today's weather is very typical of La Jolla all year long, with highs in the mid-70s and mostly sunny skies.
